Lake Travis Independent School District
The Lake Travis Independent School District is extremely focused on each student’s education. This district has some of the best schools in the state and many are even recognized nationwide. When you are thinking of moving into the Austin area with young children in tow, education should be one of your top priorities.
The Lake Travis School District is located about 20 miles out of Austin towards the west along the south shore of beautiful Lake Travis, the largest body of water in Central Texas. Originally the area was a part of the Dripping Springs school district, but in1981 the Lake Travis Independent School District was formed with slightly over 500 students. Today, the Lake Travis ISD has over 5,000 students! The facilities include four elementary schools, two middle schools and one high school. Lake Travis is just a great community to live in, and a great place for the kids to go to school. The Lake Travis and Lakeway area is famous for its world-class golf, tennis, and boating along Lower Colorado River. It's an affluent area where the average home price is $450k compared to the Austin average of approximately $250k.
The aim of the Lake Travis Independent School District is to “leave no child without an education,” and to do that they focus on academic excellence. They know that every child is important and that every child needs an education to survive in today’s world. Their graduates have LIFELONG learning abilities. This district provides a world class curriculum and the best educational opportunities for every one of its students.
What’s Important to the Lake Travis ISD and to You as a Parent?
Every school district has its own goals and objectives. The following are concepts that are important to the Lake Travis ISD, community and parents alike:
- Communication with, and help from the administration, parents and staff in attaining its educational goals.
- Create an environment that is appropriate for students who want to acquire the best education. An environment that motivates children to attain their full potential.
- Add innovative technology and necessary support for such technology that will promote technological education.
- Get students ready to pursue a career and go on to college
- Recruit and hire the best teachers, staff and faculty.
Granted, the Lake Travis school district is small. It is a quiet, serene are with an abundance of natural beauty. The perfect place to raise children, because the class groups are small, the teachers are qualified, and that means children can better understand what is being taught and get more attention from both staff and teachers.
Of the eight schools that are located in within LTISD, 5 are either recognized or considered exemplary. All schools are implemented with the most modern equipment and the highest technology available. The facilities have been designed and continue to be worked on to promote excellence in education.Superintendent’s Welcome
The Lake Travis ISD community has many reasons to be thankful to have the opportunity to call this little part of the world our home. Few would argue that we are fortunate to get to experience the beauty of the Texas Hill country, the lake from which we get our namesake, the vibe of Austin and the spirit, energy and heart of the children and adults who are intertwined in our lives.
This fall, our school district began a new initiative call Leadership Lake Travis, an opportunity for LTISD to spend some time with parents, retirees, business partners and other community members who share a vision of excellence and opportunity for our schools. During our first meeting in October, I asked each LLT participant to share their journey to Lake Travis ISD. Almost to a person, they spoke of “doing their homework” to identify a school system that possessed the qualities and characteristics they desired for their children. These qualities included: strong academic programs and opportunities, a wide-range of highly successful extra-curricular programs, teachers and staff who truly have a heart for kids, and perhaps most importantly – a school district that reflects strong parent/community ownership and engagement in its school system. This is Lake Travis!
Whether you are a long-time resident of our community or a family considering a move to the Austin area, please know we are appreciative of your interest in Lake Travis ISD. We will never claim to be a perfect school district, but the list of great things going on here is impressive. It is a great time to live and work in Lake Travis ISD!
If you desire to know more about our school district, I would encourage you to contact our Director of Communications, Media and Community Relations, Mr. Marco Alvarado. He is a wonderful resource for anyone desiring to learn more about LTISD!
Sincerely,
D. Rockwell “Rocky” Kirk, Ed. D.
