Leander Real Estate

You’ll find Leander to the north of Austin and at the edge of the Texas Hill Country. Named the 37th fastest growing city in the United States, Leander has grown from 7,600 residents to over 30,000 in just the last few years. People flock to Leander for it’s affordability and the high quality of its schools. Since the first school in Leader was opened in 1855, the community has rallied behind the importance of education, and it shows.

As Leander continues to grow, the city’s leadership is managing the growth from award- winning planning initiatives that make sustainable and family-friendly development top priorities. They plan to build a community that “lives, works and plays together.”

With events like Movies in the Park and the Full Moon Concert Series, this community comes together for fun and fellowship. Leander’s healthy Parks and Recreation Department offers a variety of these types of events, as well as natural areas, parks, athletic spaces and local community pools. There is something for every age group in Leander.

Leander, Texas:
Past and Present

The City of Leander was born after the railroad industry moved into Southwestern Williamson County in 1882. The first settlers in the area established a small town called Bagdad, afterwards changed to the now known Leander in honor of Leander Brown, a railroad official.

The Bagdad community was thriving and residents had already established a great town to live. They had a school, a post office, two blacksmith shops, several general stores, and various churches when the railroad industry proposed to have the railroad tracks built within the Bagdad downtown area. The residents of the community strongly opposed the project forcing the railroad industry officials to build elsewhere.

The Austin and Northwestern Railroad system was built a mile away east of Bagdad town. Having realized the big advantage of the railroad station to the communitys business growth, the Bagdad settlers regretted their decision of not having the railroad tracks within their town.

What they did to make up for their mistake is to bring their businesses and homes closer to the railroad tracks. After some time, the original post office is also moved. This act of migration paved the way for the development of the City of Leander. The first bank was opened, doctors and lawyers offices popped up, a drug store was established, and soon many cotton gins were around town.

Leanders main activity in the past still centers in agricultural farming but newer generations concentrated in attending to their educational needs. Some residents who wish to attain higher education need to go to Liberty Hill or Georgetown because the school in Leander only offered until the tenth grade. The Leander town continued to progress as time passed by until the City of Leander was incorporated in the late 1970s.

Leander now has an approximated population of over twenty five thousand residents. There were several subdivisions developed in the western part of Leander, fast food chains began expanding their businesses here, newer and better schools were built, and today Leander is one of the fastest growing cities in the nation. One of the main attractions of Leander is the Crystal Falls Municipal Golf Course, an 18-hole course providing various challenges for different skill levels.

This year, the City of Leander is expected to open the first commuter rail station of Capital Metro. This train will run from Leander to the downtown area of Austin. It will provide employees from Leander a suitable and fast commuting service to their workplaces in the city state of Austin. They will be able to avoid and greatly decrease the heavy traffic in Austin.

Leander is considered the fastest growing community all over the state of Texas because of its ideal small town ambiance, perfect for raising a family without giving up the benefits and job opportunities of the nearby metropolitan area. You should act now if you are planning on relocating to the sunny City of Leander. Call Austin Referral Realty today at (512) 892-0708! We here to help you in anyway possible.
