Round Rock Real Estate
Originally named Brushy, Round Rock got its name when postal authorities asked Thomas C. Oatts (store owner and manager of the local post office) to re-name the settlement, since another town also held that name. Oatts decided to honor his good friend Jacob Harrell by naming the town after the large round rock that sat in the middle of Brushy Creek where he and Jacob fished together. In addition to being along the railroad, Round Rock was placed along a feeder trail which connected to and was part of the famous Chisholm Trail.
With a population of over 100,000, Round Rock maintains a small-town feel and is one of the safest and best managed cities in Texas and the 11th safest city in the U.S. While the school district is widely respected for its high quality, the property tax rate remains one of the lowest in the area. The recreational opportunities also abound, with many local businesses and restaurants as well as many national chains.
With a quaint town center, a vibrant parks and recreation department, and a city calendar teeming with community events, there is a lot of life to be lived in Round Rock. Residents love their city and it’s people.

Located 25 miles north of Austin TX, Round Rock is one of the fastest growing cities in the nation. The population in the city was 99,887 (2010 Census). Median value of single-family homes in the city is approx. $163k. Major employers in the Round Rock area include Dell Corporate Headquarters, IBM, National Instruments, Abbott Laboratories, Samsung, and Westinghouse.
Round Rock is a family oriented community with one of the best public education systems in Texas. The acclaimed Round Rock Independent School District (RRISD) has about 40,000 students currently attending four high schools, eight middle schools, and 27 elementary schools. During the past five years, the number of students has increased by nearly 21%, and the annual growth rate of approximately 3.5% is expected to continue.
